Hi there. Welcome to Aardvark. My name is Neil Ehrlich,
an artist whose artwork is in the form of handmade tiles and paintings
produced in my studio in spectacular Bella
Coola Valley. First, about my tiles:
I make highly decorative 4x4 inch wall tiles.
They are not intended for floors or outdoor areas
affected by frost, but you can use them just about
anywhere else: for splash backs, around fireplaces,
tub shower or shower surrounds, on counters, tables,
baseboard areas, stair risers, window or door trim,
and so forth. My tiles are actually slightly under
four inches square, 3 15/16" or 100 mm square to be
exact, so that nine tiles with grout lines cover one
square foot. Counter tops, for example, are usually 24
inches deep, 6 tiles deep; tub enclosures are
generally 60 inches wide, 15 tiles wide. With many
common installations, cutting of tiles can often be
kept to a minimum by planning out using multiples of
four inches.
My tiles cut best with a diamond masonry blade or a
carborundum one. Glass-cutter type scoring and
breaking is not recommended with handmade tiles.
